Questionable business dealings, illegal substances, and prostitutes: Hunter Biden has had a difficult existence since he has had to navigate the shadows of both his father, former Vice President Joe Biden, and his elder brother, Beau, who passed away in 2015 from cancer.
The difficulties he is experiencing make him an easy target for Joe Biden’s opponents, and the fact that he has struck a plea bargain with the Justice Department to avoid going to jail on tax and gun charges is not likely to put a stop to the assaults.
As the current president campaigns for a second term in office, Republicans, led by Donald Trump, have begun to allege that the president’s father and son have profited to the tune of millions of dollars thanks to business agreements that Hunter has struck in China and Ukraine.
Although Hunter, now 53 years old, is considered by some to be the family outcast, his father has always supported him.
“There is nothing wrong with my son’s behavior. I trust him. Last month, as Republicans in Congress began a new investigation, Vice President Joe Biden stated, “I have faith in him.”
– Cocaine with alcoholic beverages –
Hunter, a graduate of the prestigious Yale Law School, floundered between employment in the government, banking, and lobbying until settling at a family-controlled hedge fund and starting his own international business consultancy in the late 2000s. until that, he worked his way up through the ranks of the legal profession.
But alcoholism, an addiction to crack cocaine, and many spells in recovery plagued his life throughout its whole.
When Hunter was three years old, his mother and sister were murdered in a car accident, and he was taken to the hospital with a cracked skull. Hunter blames the accident for his addictions.
But he also lived under the shadow of Beau, who had a distinguished career in the military and went on to pursue a career in politics; his father had predicted that Beau may one day become president, but he passed away in 2015 due to brain cancer.
After that, Joe took practically every chance to talk about the death of his son, and he empathized with the experiences of other people who had lost children.
In the meantime, Hunter was barely mentioned at all.
After Beau’s passing, Hunter said in his biography that the drug problem only became worse, and it reached its lowest point just around the time that Joe’s vice presidency came to an end in 2017.
His marriage ended in divorce, and he was no longer able to care for their three girls.
He had an affair with Beau’s widow, had a kid with another woman in Arkansas who later sued him, and then had his files, emails, and racy images from his laptop computer made public by his father’s adversaries. He had an affair with the widow of Beau. He had a child with another woman in Arkansas who later sued him.
And because of the millions of money he made from his investments in other countries, the Justice Department began looking into him for possible criminal activity.
However, despite the fact that Joe may have given the impression that he favored Beau, he stood up for Hunter whenever the latter was criticized, such as during the presidential election in 2020, when Trump brought up Hunter’s history of drug use and business dealings during a debate.
On national television, Joe Biden was quoted as saying, “My son, like a lot of other people… had a drug problem.”
“He has taken control of it, he has rectified it, and he has been working on it. And he has my utmost respect. “My son has made me very proud,” the father declared.
“He never judged me,” Hunter Biden writes in his upcoming memoir “Beautiful Things.” In the book, he describes his days of drinking straight from the bottle of vodka, exploring unsavory areas for crack cocaine at night, and making numerous unsuccessful attempts to become clean.
He said that in the year 2019, he was able to pull himself up when his father and his second wife Melissa staged an intervention on his behalf.
According to what he wrote, the unwavering love of his father was the only thing that helped him.
“He never abandoned me, never shunned me, and never judged me, no matter how bad things got,” Hunter wrote in his journal. “He was always there for me.”
I’d attempt to fade to black via drinking or drug addiction, and then there he was, barging in again with his lantern, blazing a light, and ruining my intentions to disappear, he recalled. “There were times when his persistence infuriated me.”
Hunter asserts that he is clean as of today. He gave the baby boy, who he had with Melissa, the name Beau.
He took up painting, despite the fact that this brought about new controversy when collectors who want to remain anonymous purchased his paintings for sums in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Even if the criminal lawsuit is now behind him, accusations over his business transactions will not go away as long as his father is projected to run against Trump in the presidential election of 2024.
A month ago, Republicans in Congress made the accusation that the Biden family had made more than $10 million through Hunter’s business agreements, despite the fact that they gave little proof to support their claim.
“Hunter Biden and his allies courted business in nations that corresponded directly with Joe Biden’s activity as vice president,” said James Comer, the chair of the House Oversight Committee. ”
Both Joe and Joe Biden have denied the allegations.
