Tyson Fury, the reigning world heavyweight champion from Britain, has stated that he is actively investigating the prospect of fighting in Australia.
Fury, who has never been defeated in his professional career, is presently in the nation to show support for his close friend and former heavyweight champion of the WBO, Joseph Parker, who is competing against Faiga Opelu on Wednesday.
“I’m looking to do a fight here so I will be going up and down the country looking at different stadiums over the next few days,” Fury said in an interview with Fox Sports television. “I’m looking to do a fight here.”
“I’m 100 percent serious.”
The 34-year-old Fury, who has fought in 34 bouts and won 33 of them with one tie, is making his maiden trip to Australia. He has a record of 33 victories and one draw from those matches.
Since he successfully defended his World Boxing Council title with a decisive stoppage victory over his British adversary Derek Chisora in December, Fury has not competed, and there are currently no other bouts scheduled for him.
Oleksandr Usyk, the current holder of the WBA, IBF, and WBO titles, and I have had sporadic conversations here and there.
“I’m looking to fight some big fights this year and next year,” Fury said in Melbourne, adding that negotiations with the Ukrainian Usyk are still underway. “I’m looking to fight some big fights this year and next year,” Fury said.
According to what he said in an interview with Fox Sports, “We have an undisputed fight on the horizon against Oleksandr Usyk for all of the belts.”
“We have been discussing that for well over a year at this point. There are also other major clashes, therefore we are also preparing for a number of other scenarios.
If the bout with Usyk does not take place, one of these bouts might be against Zhang Zhilei of China or Joe Joyce of the United Kingdom.
After Zhang stopped Joyce in the sixth round in London in April, he was awarded the WBO interim championship and with it the mandatory position to face the sanctioning body’s full champion, Usyk. Joyce’s loss gave Zhang the opportunity to face Usyk.
Joyce has exercised the rematch clause in his contract, and Fury is looking at the possibility of fighting whoever emerges victorious.
“We were supposed to talk about fighting Zhang, but Joe Joyce has activated his rematch clause, so they will now have a rematch, and maybe the winner will get a chance to fight me in the future,” he added. “They both have rematch clauses, so they will now have one.”
