RIYADH: According to a report that was distributed by the Saudi Press Agency on Thursday, the head of the Gulf Cooperation Council stated that GCC countries are making substantial efforts to battle illegal substances.
On the occasion of the United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which is celebrated on June 26 of each year, GCC Secretary-General Jasem Albudaiwi delivered the following remarks.
According to him, winning the war on drugs required efficient cooperation on a global scale as well as the concerted efforts of governmental, civil, and individual organizations and individuals.
He went on to say that the GCC nations were dedicated to improving their coordination in order to put a stop to the movement of drug smugglers and build systems for controlling the supply and demand of illicit drugs.
Albudaiwi stated that the council’s other goal was to assist drug addicts by offering them various treatment alternatives and assisting them in reintegrating themselves into society.
In addition, he mentioned that the establishment of the GCC Criminal Information Center to Combat Drugs in 2008 showed the cooperative efforts of GCC member nations to combat the criminal trafficking of drugs.
