According to the interior minister, a French firefighter tragically lost his life while trying to extinguish burning cars in the northern part of Paris. This incident occurred during the sixth night of riots that have been taking place in response to the police’s killing of a teenager.
According to Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin, a 24-year-old fireman tragically lost his life while battling a fire in an underground car park located in the suburb of Seine-Saint-Denis, which is north of the capital.
The interior ministry has stated that they are currently conducting an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the vehicle fires.
Darmanin did not specifically mention that the rioting caused the fires, and it’s not immediately clear if there is a direct connection between the fires and the ongoing violence in France.
Defence Minister Sebastien Lecornu tweeted that a young corporal from the fire brigade tragically lost their life last night while bravely fighting multiple fires in Saint-Denis.
Transport Minister Clement Beaune expressed his concern and empathy for the public servants who are working tirelessly, day and night, to restore peace and order.
According to the ministry, the police have arrested 157 individuals across the country during the recent night of rioting. This number is significantly lower compared to previous days, indicating a relatively calmer night overall.
Three members of the security forces were injured, which is a significant decrease compared to previous nights.
