The driver of the wedding party bus, who was 58 years old, was taken into custody after a crash in the Hunter wine area of Australia, which is located north of Sydney. The accident resulted in the deaths of ten individuals.
After overturning late on Sunday night while transporting guests from a wedding at a nearby winery, the light-colored coach was shown lying on its side on television photos. The accident occurred as the coach was taking people away from the event.
In the hazy night, there were about a dozen people working for the emergency services who were wearing high visibility yellow vests. Their cars’ colored lights were flashing.
Acting Assistant Commissioner Tracy Chapman stated that the death toll could yet grow, as 25 people were taken to the hospital after the crash, with two of them being taken by helicopter from the scene of the accident.
She stated that the bus had not been turned over despite the fact that the corpse was still inside, leaving open the possibility that other people are buried beneath it.
She stated that the police had no knowledge of any minors being involved in the incident.
According to a police official who spoke to media at the site, the driver of the bus was detained at a police station in the adjacent town of Cessnock after being subjected to required tests at a hospital.
“He’s under arrest. “He was the driver of a motor vehicle collision where there were fatal injuries, and there will be charges pending,” she added. “There will be charges pending.”
According to the officer, all of the passengers had attended the same wedding, and it was assumed that they were on their way back to their accommodations after the celebrations had concluded.
According to what she claimed, it did not appear that any other vehicles were involved in the collision.
‘Cruel and sad’
Weddings, according to the Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese, are some of the greatest times for friends and family.
It is so cruel, tragic, and unfair that such a joyful day in such a beautiful location should end with such awful loss of life and injury,” he said in Canberra. “For a joyful day like that in a beautiful place to end with such horrible loss of life and damage.”
“People hire a bus for weddings in order to keep their guests safe, and that just adds to the unimaginable nature of this tragedy,” the prime minister said in a statement after the accident. “People hire a bus for weddings.”
Albanese has conveyed his gratitude to those who responded to the emergency and wished those who are still hospitalized a speedy recovery.
“I would want to extend our gratitude to the emergency personnel who were the first to arrive at this horrible situation. “I can’t even begin to fathom the situations they were put in or the challenges they had to overcome,” he said.
A trained forensic police unit as well as a Crash Investigation Unit are currently investigating the scene here.
As a result of the abundance of vineyards, kangaroos, and native bushland in the Hunter region, it is a favorite destination for vacationers and organized group excursions.
Chris Minns, the Premier of New South Wales, expressed his “deepest condolences” to the families and loved ones of those who had been murdered or injured in the attack.
“This is a situation that is quite unfortunate. “I know that the entire community of New South Wales, and in particular the people of the Hunter, will wake up to this news today shocked and saddened,” Minns said. “In particular, the people of the Hunter.”
The New South Wales Police Department is in charge of leading the investigation into the accident’s causes, which has already begun.
