Adult Swim has confirmed that Rick and Morty will be recasting a new voice actor for Season 7 to replace co-creator Justin Roiland in his role as both the intergalactic duo and various side characters.
Adult Swim and a number of other projects connected to the director broke relations with Roiland following the filing of domestic abuse and false imprisonment accusations against him. Even though all accusations have now been dropped, Roiland will no longer be a voice actor for the Rick and Morty series.
Executive producer Steve Levy and Cartoon Network CEO Michael Ouweleen both addressed the changes at the Annecy International Festival in France. Levy remarked that he doubts anyone will notice the new voices, while Ouweleen compared the change to the evolution of Bugs Bunny voice actors over the years.
“I love what Jeff Bennett has done with [Bugs Bunny]. But it’s not Mel Blanc, and yet we recognize the character!” said Ouweleen.
Season 7 of Rick and Morty as well as a special anime project are set to release later this year. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
